The idea behind this piece was to create a teapot based on traditional African water vessel forms. The shape of the body of this teapot comes from Gwari water vessels from Nigeria which became more widely known through the work of Ladi Kwali.
The leaf motif represents the rapid plant growth we are experiencing with the summer rains. The surface is decorated with terra sigillata made with both commercial clay and foraged clays from Tennessee, Ontario and Puerto Rico.
8” from tip of spout to handle, 6.5” tall. Holds 28-30 oz. The exterior has been sanded for softness and has areas of unevenness. Please view all photos closely.
