Studio Shots with Vivian Hoang

Vivian Hoang, a recent graduate of Ringling College and Design, got in touch with me, asking if she could come photograph my studio and take some headshots to fortify her portfolio as she gears herself up for a career in photography and film. She took some excellent portraits, which I will surely be using for any upcoming press inquiries, but what I wanted to share here are some interesting shots that give a great inside view of my studio process. I love the organized chaos of my workshop and Vivian did a wonderful job documenting it. Visit her website: https://lilmissvivian.com/

Two wooden shelves filled with various colored fired clay samples. The bottom shelf has little round "cookies" of clay in stacks and tiny pinch pots. The colors range from off white to orange to dark red and even dark purple. The top shelf is packed full of test tiles that have been brushed with different terra sigillata, showing various earth tones with cracked, shiny, satin and matte surfaces. The wall in the background is blue-green.

In front of my studio-garage. The sign was made by my neighbor who recently passed away.

My wild clay terra sigilata collection.

Overhead view of my dirty wheel surrounded by the plastic I use to cover and slow-dry my pottery.

Me working in my glaze kitchen where I also make my terra sig.

Polishing a test pinch pot with a plastic bag after I've applied terra sigillata. Look at that sheen! I love this photo so much.

My clay reclaim bucket. All those clay scraps from my wheel get recycled and reworked into clay that I use to make new pieces.
