Birth of Venus, Birth of Oshun III
I made two of these pitcher and basin sets for my recent exhibit titled “The Sea Is Alive in Me” but only included one in the show. The set fully embodies the theme of the exhibit with its fluid curves, flowing aqua glaze and the undulating rim of the bowl that is reminiscent of a clam shell. The connotations of cleansing and washing are present in the form, as pitchers and basins were used in place of sinks in washrooms before indoor plumbing was common.
The pitcher is 15” tall, the bowl is 13” diameter and the two pieces stand 16” tall.
